For my 30th birthday party, I created an interactive sound installation to fill the space of my office during the party. A mic was placed in the living room, where the party took place. The software I wrote listened to the mic, tracking the average sound level of the room. Whenever a moment of peak loudness occured, it was recorded and then looped in a quadrophonic setup in the office. The party guests were told about the existance of the mic, but not its location.
This recording was created by speeding up the time scale of the sound installation while using the original samples. The events were compressed into a few minutes rather than the few hours that the installation was running. It was mixed to a stereo track from the original 4 channel installation.
